On Monday 21 October Deirdre, our Young Carers Co-ordinator, attended the first Young Carers Lead Professional Network Meeting. This was organised and hosted by Elissa Coster (Student Wellbeing Officer) and Ros Cartwright (Teacher) from John Hanson Community School.
The meeting was attended by 10 Andover Schools (both Primary and Secondary), AYC and a representative of The Carers Trust.
Elissa wrote afterwards ‘Ros and I just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU for coming along to the first Young Carers Lead Professional Network Meeting.
She continued ‘It was incredibly humbling to be in a room with so many passionate people and hear about all of the amazing support you are giving to those students who are Young Carers. The schools are very lucky to have you all and we feel very lucky to now work alongside you to help develop and grow this network across schools in and around Andover. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, ideas and experiences of running your Young Carer provision, it was fantastic to learn from each other and we certainly came away with some great ideas!
She added a special thank you to Deidre and Lucy for sharing the local and national perspective, saying that ‘it was really interesting and helps to shape the work and support we can provide within schools’.
This is a fantastic initiative, and we at AYC can’t thank John Hanson enough for getting it off the ground. We look forward to the next meeting.
