After we receive a young carer referral it is essential that we carry out an assessment to make sure that we offer the most appropriate support. Assessments can be carried out in the home, or more usually at school.
The assessment is carried out in a relaxed, child centred manner, and by covering different areas such as school, helping at home, friendships and hobbies, we are able to build a picture of the impact of the caring responsibilities on the young carer’s life and plan appropriate support.
