This year Andover Young Carers (AYC) celebrates 25 years of providing support to young carers in Andover and the surrounding area. What better way to start our 25th celebrations than by highlighting the amazing support we have locally.
On May 12th we were delighted to welcome Michael Wheeler, Chair of the Andover Chamber Choir and Bruce Randall, Conductor, to the Bungalow so they could present us with a cheque following their Spring Concert. Funds raised through ticket sales, a retiring collection at the concert along with a generous anonymous donation resulted in the fantastic sum of £1,005.94 to help support local young carers.
Andover Chamber Choir, conducted by Bruce Randall, performed a concert entitled The Easter Journey in Words and Music at St Michael’s, West Andover, on 12th April. The choir’s chosen charity was Andover Young Carers, which members of the choir believe plays a vital role in the town, supporting those who are asked to do more as carers than is appropriate at a young age. Chairman of the choir Prof. Michael Wheeler said, ‘We are delighted to have raised over £1,000 for a cause that is close to our hearts, at a time when this particular charity needs all the financial help it can get’.
Amanda Kelly, Charity Executive at AYC said “Andover Young Carers is absolutely delighted to accept a cheque from Andover Chamber Choir, and to benefit from the proceeds of their Spring Concert. As a small local charity, we rely on local fundraising and donations to ensure we can provide much needed help, support, and fun for young carers in Andover.”
Young carers miss out on so much as there is often no money for activities or outings. They are also often very isolated due to their caring roles. Being able to access support and respite at AYC is vital. Local fundraising events play an important part in our funding. We are immensely grateful for this support.
