Party and Panto fun for young carers

Party and Panto fun for young carers thanks to £1000 Councillor Community Grant.

We are really excited to announce that we have been awarded a vital £1,000 Councillor Community Grant from Test Valley Borough Council. The Councillors of St Mary’s Ward, Iris Andersen, Jan Budzynski and Debbie Cattell, kindly supported this grant which has helped towards our Christmas parties for young carers and also funded pantomime tickets for young carers.

Young carers miss out on so much as there is often no money for activities or outings. They are also often very isolated due to their caring roles. Christmas can be a challenging time for young carers as others around them enjoy the festivities. This Councillor Community grant has ensured that we were able to make Christmas a fun time for them. During December we organised Christmas parties for all our groups of young carers at our After School Clubs, with young carers enjoying a festive meal in a Christmassy environment, with party games and a gift. We have also been able to offer pantomime tickets to young carers so they can enjoy what so many other children enjoy during the holiday period.

We were delighted to welcome Councillor Debbie Cattell and Councillor Iris Andersen to the Bungalow on December 16th to hear about the work we do and how much the young carers enjoyed the parties and the opportunity to go to see a pantomime. We shared some feedback from families saying how much they enjoyed the pantomime.

Councillor Iris Andersen said “The young carers do a wonderful job looking after their loved ones who they care for. It’s so nice to give them something back and appreciate them for what they do. I hope they will have a lovely time“.

Amanda Kelly, Charity Executive at AYC said “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this funding. It has allowed us to bring some Christmas fun to the Bungalow for the young carers, as well as enable them to go and see a pantomime, like so many other children. This helps support the well-being of young carers and give them that all important opportunity to just have some fun”.
