A group of young carers got the chance to go to the annual Young Carers Festival weekend at YMCA Fairthorne at the end of June.
Deirdre and Joe took 11 young carers to this year’s Young Carers Festival, arriving on Friday evening to set up tents with the help of Richard, one of our wonderful volunteers. The young people were encouraged to go off, explore and enjoy everything that was on offer at the Festival which they did, taking part in lots of activities including go-karting and the disco, as well as enjoying funfair rides. We had an early start on the Saturday, as everyone was so excited to get up and get going. After breakfast the young people were very keen to paddleboard and kayak, so that was our main activity on Saturday morning. Most of Saturday afternoon was spent enjoying the karaoke, with young people taking part in activities in between including obstacle courses, football competitions and weightlifting. One of our young people deserves a special mention as she showed great courage and confidence when taking part in the karaoke and she got the whole crowd clapping along with her during her performance. She also won a prize for taking part in the ‘Voice Zone’, where young carers have the chance to share their opinions. The rest of the Saturday included a disco, funfair rides and socialising. Some very tired young carers slept well on Saturday night before heading home on Sunday.
Another amazing Young Carers Festival! What a fantastic weekend we had. Thank you to everyone involved in making this such a memorable time including YMCA Fairthorne Manor, our funders and volunteers. We got to try lots of fun things and enjoyed it all.
