Who is a young carer

A Young Carer is a child or young person under 18 who provides regular or on-going care and emotional support to a family member who is physically or mentally ill, disabled or misuses substances.

Andover Young Carers (AYC) is a small charity providing vital support and respite to young carers in Andover and the surrounding area who have caring responsibilities that are inappropriate for their years. They may be caring for a family member who has a disability, illness, poor mental health and/or alcohol or drug abuse problems.

We meet a need in the community by tackling factors that contribute to social and emotional isolation, educational under achievement, reduced higher education and employment choices, negative impacts on health (mental and physical) and well-being and the very real issue of a lost childhood.
