Andover Young Carers is an independent Charity established to provide support to children and young people who have a caring responsbility.

A Young Carer is a child or young person under 18 who provides regular or on-going care and emotional support to a family member who is physically or mentally ill, disabled or misuses substances.

A child or young person becomes vulnerable when the level of care giving and responsibility to the person in need of care becomes excessive or inappropriate for that child, risk impacting on his or her emotional, physical well-being or educational achievement and life chances.

Andover Young Carers received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for outstanding contributions made to the local community.  The Queen's Award is awarded to outstanding volunteer groups across the UK, who all too often go without recognition for the truly amazing work they do, despite the vital part they play in helping bind our communities together. The prestigious National Honour recognises the national benchmark for excellence of those who have devoted their time for the benefit of others, and this work being judged to be of the highest standard.

Winners of the award were selected from 341 groups, as nominated by members of the public who have helped personally or witnessed the benefits of a group's work in their community. Andover Young Carers received a certifcate signed by the Queen and an exclusive commemorative crystal which was presented by Her Majesty's representative in Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan.

Andover Young Carers commented:"We are honoured to have received this prestigious award for the work we do with young carers in the local community".
